The Connecticut Sun face off against the Dream in the ATL.

Sun Preview

The Sun travel to the ATL looking for a second win this week. After dispatching the Wings in Dallas by a score of 109-91. Connecticut set a new season high in scoring and tied their season high in three-pointers made at 11. It was an impressive offensive performance.

The Sun is known for their balance-scoring attack which was highlighted against Dallas.

  • Dewanna Bonner-29 points

  • Marina Mabrey-17 points (Season debut with Sun)

  • Tyasha Harris-14 points

  • Alyssa Thomas-12 points

  • Brionna Jones-12 points

And this was all with Connecticut missing their fourth-leading scorer in DiJonai Carrington, who was out with an illness but should be back against the Dream.

As noted above Mabrey was making her season debut with the Sun. Coming to Connecticut via trade from the Chicago Sky at the trade deadline. It will be interesting to see if she comes off the bench or starts over Carrington.

Dream Preview

The Dream is coming off a heart-pounding come-from-behind victory over the Storm by the score of 83-81. Atlanta has had a disappointing season so far due to injuries. But the Olympic Break came at a perfect time for the Dream.

Rhyne Howard has only played 15 games this season but played against Seattle, scoring 30 points. The Olympian competed with the USA Women’s 3x3 team and won bronze. It appears that experience has improved her ability to drive to the hole.

Jordan Canada played for the first time in six weeks. Canada had a nice game with 10 points and 8 assists. With Canada back in the lineup the offensive attack was improved.

The Daves Daily Picks Prediction

Currently, the line is set at Sun -7.5 with a total of 155.5. I do not want to lay 7.5 points on a road team so lets look at the total.

This 155.5 seems too light. Both these teams surpassed this total in their last game out after the Olympic break.

Let’s look at some trends:

  • Both teams are 12-13 to the over

  • In these teams’ three previous matchups, they are 1-2 to the over

  • Over is 4-1 in Dream last 5 home games

  • Over is 4-1 in Sun last 5 vs. a team with a losing straight up record

  • Over is 6-2 in Sun last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.

  • Over is 8-3 in Sun last 11 games playing on 1 days rest

These trends are all pointing me to the over. Combined with the Sun having Mabrey and the Dream being healthy, the over is my play.

Official Pick Over 155.5

I think this number is too light and both teams should score in the 80's.
