The Lexie Hull Effect

People talk about CC but Lexie may be the key

By Dave Sellers

The Indiana Fever is suddenly hot. It is easy to say it is Caitlin Clark and CC has been exceptional. But I have discovered a trend for Indiana.

The Fever is 8-4 when Lexie Hull plays at least 19 minutes a game! I was not expecting that for a player only averaging 4.7 ppg and 1.5 rpg.

Recently she has stepped up the scoring by scoring in double digits in two of the last three games but even tonight against Atlanta she only had two points yet posted a +4 -/+ differential.

Hull and Clark seem to be the perfect guard combo. Their chemistry on the floor is undeniable and their friendship off the court seems to be growing.

Coach Sides should insert Hull into the starting lineup for Katie Lous Samuelson. I’m a big Katie Lou fan but Hull is shooting the three-ball around 42 percent compared to Samuelson at around 32 percent. And at 6’1’’ Hull is a tall guard who is not afraid to crash the glass.

The 42 percent from three is 15 percent higher than Hull’s career average.

I would be remiss if I also didn’t mention the play of Damiris Dantas. The eight-year veteran has added to an already impressive frontcourt attack.

Numbers since the Olympic break:

  • 14.25 mpg

  • 7.25 ppg

  • 3.75 rpg

The most important statistic, Fever's record is 3-1 including tonight’s win in the ATL.

Do I think the Fever can win it all, no. And they will probably lose in the first round of the playoffs, even if they climb into the sixth seed. They can win a game against Minnesota or Connecticut but they are not winning a series.

But things are clicking in Indy and this team will be trouble next year.
