Seattle Storm

The Storm had a busy offseason and it is paying off. Read all about the successes in Seattle.

The Seattle Storm had a down year in 2023 finishing with a record of 11-29. One of the W’s most successful franchises with four championships needed to add talent after losing Sue Bird to retirement and Breanna Stewart leaving for New York.

Storm GM Talisa Rhea made the following moves:

  • Traded first-round draft pick, Rickea Jackson, and Kia Nurse to the Sparks to free up cap space

  • Signed free-agent Skyler Diggins-Smith

  • Signed free-agent Nneka Ogwumike

  • Signed Ezi Magbegor to a contract extension

These moves have all paid off with the Storm occupying the fourth seed in the WNBA Standings with a record of 17-8. Unless they have an absolute meltdown, Seattle should enjoy a playoff run.

Key Stats

  • 17-8 straight-up

  • 15-10 ATS

  • 10-14-1 to the over

Offensive Stats

  • 84.3 points per game

  • 43.4% field goal percentage

  • 29.3% three-point field goal percentage

  • 6 three-pointers made per game

  • 83.2% free-throw percentage

Defensive Stats

  • 31.4% opponent’s three-point field goal percentage

  • 6.5 three-pointers allowed per game

  • 8.6 offensive rebounds allowed per game

  • 16.6 turnovers forced per game

The Storm have bought in on the defensive side of the ball holding their opponents to 77.6 points a game. The one area this team needs to improve on is their three-point shooting. Making only six a game on 29.3% from beyond the arc could become an issue.

Key Players

Jewell Lloyd

The two-time WNBA champion has spent her entire nine-year career with the Storm. Lloyd is leading a balanced offensive attack scoring 19.7 ppg.

Lloyd is having a down year from behind the arc but her ability to slash to the hole has been a key for her. The Olympian finished the first part of the season on a heater, putting up at least 30 points in the final two games.

Skylar Diggins-Smith

Diggins-Smith is in her first season with the Storm. Diggins-Smith is averaging a career-high in assists at 6.5 per game. What has been even more impressive has been her on-the-ball defense. Diggins-Smith has been velcro on opponents.

Her infectious energy on both sides of the ball has been a positive addition to the Storm.

Remaining Schedule

The Storm sit in fourth place with the same record as Minnesota. The Lynx hold the head-to-head tiebreakers. But the second seed Sun is only 1.5 games ahead of Seattle.

The great news for Seattle, they have the eighth easiest remaining schedule. The bad news the other three teams in front of them, New York, Connecticut, and Minnesota have easier schedules.

Fanduel has the Storm’s win total set at 26.5 games with the over being juiced to -115 with the under at -110. The over seems to be a solid bet.
