The Suddenly Hot Cubs
The Chicago Cubs came into the season with high hopes and have not met expectations. But things are starting to heat up in the Windy City at the right time.
The Cubs are currently four games behind Atlanta for the third and last wildcard spot. August was kind to the Cubbies.
The Cubs finished the month with a record of 17-8, winning their last five, including a sweep of their NL Central Rivals, the Pirates.
If manager Craig Counsel can get this team into the playoffs they have a chance to make some real noise. The schedulers were kind to the Cubs.
The Cubs have the 20th easiest remaining schedule.
Cubs’ Remaining Games
9 against teams with a winning record (Dodgers, Yankees, Phillies)
17 against teams with a losing record (Rockies, Pirates, A’s, Reds, Nationals)
Gambling Trend
For those North Sider fans bracing for this team to once again break their hearts, I have discovered a betting trend worth making note.
Cubs’ games have had plenty of early fireworks in August, especially over their last ten games.
Over the Cubs’ last ten games, there have been at least five runs scored during the first five innings in each game. Who knows how long this streak continues but I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.
